Proposed Sangguniang Kabataan Activities

Proposed SK Activities
(Based on Identified Youth Issues and Concerns - MTYDP)

GREEN BRIGADE
• Organize youth groups for environmental awareness and conservation/ protection
• Implement programs and activities for environmental conservation/ protectionT


LIVELIHOOD
• Provide computer literacy training for residents and community members
• Conduct job application seminars, workshops, tours (job fairs)
• Conduct awareness campaigns on workers’ rights through symposia and other information dissemination activities
• Organize youth cooperatives
• Provide income-generating projects, especially those focused on agriculture

CAPABILITY-BUILDING
• Conduct capability-building activities for SK officers and KK members

ANTI-DRUG ABUSE CAMPAIGN
• Conduct forums that address drug abuse

HEALTH SERVICES AND ADOLESCENT REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH PROGRAM
• Mobilize SK funds for reproductive health/ basic health programs for the youth
• Promote abstinence and safe sex among the youth
• Enable access to family planning methods and contraceptives among the youth
• Implement tighter measures to prohibit tobacco, alcohol, illegal substance use among youth
• Pull out cigarette stalls from school canteens and school premises (in coordination with LGUs)
• Strictly implement the no-smoking policy in public places, especially near schools and other areas frequented by young people
• Provide more opportunities for recreation and personal development
• Conduct orientations, training seminars/ workshops, and forums that address the identified issues
• Provide community-based peer-counseling services regarding the identified issues, especially for youth at risk

EDUCATION SERVICES AND MORAL RECOVERY
• Create and implement educational programs that are student-led, teacher-facilitated
• Implement a functional literacy program
• Conduct advocacy campaign on human rights education
• Conduct a public advocacy campaign emphasizing the cost of ignorance
• Promote entertaining and educational activities such as: essay contest to invite young people to express in their own words what they value
• Organize extension services – conduct seminars and workshops that provide non-formal education (e.g. peer counseling, home visitation programs)
• Conduct recollections, retreats, and family workshops that strengthen values within and among families

DISASTER COORDINATION AND CALAMITY MANAGEMENT
• Organize youth volunteers
• Recognize/ award volunteer youth organizations

SPORTS DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES
• Hold/ organize sports activities

COMMUNITY IMMERSION
• Organize community immersion activities to promote youth development

INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS
• Implement infrastructure projects vital for youth development

LEGISLATIVE WORK AND INVOLVEMENT
• Obtain pertinent legislations affecting the Local Government and the youth
• Formulate proposed legislations, resolutions and the like
• Advocate for and institutionalize youth rights in schools
• Award Outstanding SKs
• Publish youth-related materials to inspire and motivate young people
• Strengthen existing programs that promote youth participation
• Organize an evaluation committee to recognize the achievements of young individuals and groups
• Coordinate the activities of out-of-school and in-school youths within communities through schools, churches, and other organizations
